New York Fashion Week is undeniably about the clothes, but a runway show’s music is just as important. If you’re gobsmacked by a gown floating down the runway, the right song can amplify this feeling—and that’s especially true if you’ve employed an almost 100-person choir in a cavernous theater, as Pyer Moss’s Kerby-Jean Raymond did.

There were moments in that show when the strength of the gospel choir’s voices in unison quite literally made one’s hair stand on end.

In addition to Jean-Raymond’s long standing choir, though, there were plenty of other memorable music moments from this New York Fashion Week, including live sets from the likes of Londoner Nilüfer Yanya, who performed at Ulla Johnson, and Zsela, a staple of the underground fashion scene, who sang a medley of her own songs at Collina Strada’s environmentally minded show.

Last but not least, Lizzi Bougatsos and Brian DeGraw of Gang Gang Dance continued their collaboration with designer Maryam Nassir Zadeh by creating an original composition for this season’s show.
